Did the BCS finally get it right?

On Sunday, December 6, the college football bowl selections were announced. There were obviously the no doubters like, Ohio State vs. Oregon in the Rose Bowl, and Alabama vs. Texas in the National Championship. But what about Texas Christian, Cincinnati, and Boise State? Cincinnati, TCU, Boise State, Alabama, and Texas are all teams that ended the year undefeated, and what do you know, it is another National Championship placement left up to the computers and the BCS. Did the BCS finally get it right?
Having these crazy teams undefeated at the end of the year really makes you say, should TCU/Cincinnati/Boise State be given a shot at the National Championship? Well clearly one of the teams in the title game is going to have to lose and maybe one of the other three undefeated teams will win their bowl game leaving fans and the media no choice but to ask why not? Why were these teams not given the right to win that title? However, I have mixed feelings on this issue. In my mind, Alabama and Texas are the two best teams out the five undefeated teams and should be placed in the National Championship game. The teams they beat do not compare to the teams the other three schools played. Boise State does not get much help for this coming out of the WAC, but besides beating Oregon the first game of the season, there next toughest game was, Louisiana Tech or maybe Nevada. As for TCU, there only memorable wins were against #16 BYU and another #16 Utah and Cincinnati beat #21 South Florida, #25 West Virginia, and #15 Pittsburgh. But how do these teams compare to the bottom tier teams coming out of the SEC or the Big 12? In my mind, they dont!

  1. One thing I wondered is what would have happened if Texas had not pulled off the last second win over Nebraska in their final game of the season? I doubt that they would have been in the National Championship game. So, would it then have been one of the above three undefeated teams? If not an undefeated team, how would they have justified having a one-loss team (like Florida or Texas) in the National Championship, when there were three undefeated teams? I thought the BCS officials probably took a huge sigh of relief when Texas scored on that last play. Does that seem like a coincidence to anyone else?

  2. I agree with your statement about what if Texas would have lost. What would the BCS have done. Because at the time TCU was #4 and Cincinnati was #5 show who would of played Alabama would have been my questioned? I always want to say they reviewed the play to make sure there was still a second left for Texas to kick the field goal. I think they definitely didn't want Nebraska to win and maybe the review booth was told to give Texas more time? Who knows, all I know is that if they would have lost people would be still crazy on no matter would would've played Alabama.

  3. I do not belive that the BCS should still be in place. Again there were undefeated teams that were left out of contending for the national championship. Cincinnatti was undefeated in a BCS conference. I do not get how it is fair to leave them out. This should be settled on the field, not by a bunch of computers. College football needs to adopt a playoff sysyem.

  4. If you win all your games during a season, then why shouldn't you be considered the best. There were 4 undefeated teams this year. There easily could have been a 4-team playoff between them to determine the national champion. The BCS lucked out this year that the other 2 undefeated teams were not powerhouse schools like Ohio State or USC, because then there would a big issue on why they are not in the National Championship game. Since it's Cincinnati and Bosie St., schools who are not in very strong conferences there undefeated schedule means little compared to Texas or Bama.

  5. Considering the situations this year I think they got it as right as they could have. TCU and Boise though I am sure would like to be playing a perennial power house instead of each other, and I think a Cincinnati and Boise match up and Florida and TCU would have been cool, but we will see how Cinci plays Florida.
